Caesar's Legion stands as a force of absolute order, forged from the conquest and assimilation of eighty-seven tribes across the former American Southwest. Built on the doctrines of Caesar himself, the Legion rejects the degeneracy of the Old World and the weakness of those who cling to its remnants.
Caesar is dead. The fire that forged the Legion has gone out. What survives the cooling will prove whether the work was real.
The Legion's presence in this region belongs to the Noxa Column, commanded by Augustus Verus Caldius. They have held the Bonneville Salt Flats for three years. They will continue to hold it.
History and Current Affairs
The Death of Caesar
Caesar is gone. What he left behind is not grief - it is a question: what was built here, and does it stand without him? The Legion was designed to outlast its founder. Whether it does so depends entirely on the character of those who remain.
The Claim of Lacerta
Before his death, Caesar named no successor publicly. A man named Lacerta moved the moment Caesar fell. He destroyed the record of succession. He killed the witness. He put on the Laurels. These are not the actions of a man who was named. A man who was named has no reason to do any of that. Lacerta is a pretender.
The Noxa Column's Position
The Noxa Column marches under Augustus Verus Caldius, who delegates many of his tasks to his right-hand man, the Legate Jesicus. Together, they oversee the Legion's activities in the Wendover region, and seek to guide it to greater power and glory.
The Salt Column holds Wendover and the Bonneville Salt Flats, anchored along the I-80 corridor at the Utah-Nevada line. The flats offer no cover, no comfort, and no room for self-deception. This position commands the approach from the west. Lacerta's eventual advance from New Vegas runs through this ground.
"The Salt Column has held this ground in conditions that would have broken a lesser force. We will continue to hold it. Ave. - Deceased Legate Ferro Maro, Salt Column, Caesar's Legion"
The Code of the Legion
Every Legionary, from the freshest Recruit to the Centurion himself, is bound by the will of Caesar. These are not suggestions - they are the sinew that holds the Legion together.
|
Command Structure
The Legion operates through an unbroken chain of command. Authority flows downward. Obedience flows upward. There is no middle ground. All ranks should be presumed to be open to men only, unless stated otherwise.
Command
| Rank | Role |
|---|---|
| Legate | Command all Legion military operations in the region. Strategic decisions - troop movements, alliances, subjugation of factions - are yours. Caesar's will is expressed through you. |
| Centurion | Lead combat operations. Execute the Legate's strategy in the field; commands the camp in full. His word is law within it, superseded only by the Legate. |
| Optio | The Centurion's right-hand man. Speak for the Legion. Manage diplomacy and faction relations, carry out the Centurion's orders to the letter, and work to organize the rabble. Be ready to step up and lead the column in the Centurion's absence. |
| Veteran Decanus | Senior officer. Commands Veterans, Primes, and Legionaries in the field; answers directly to the Centurion. |
| Prime Decanus | Commands Prime Legionaries and below. Carry out orders from above without question. |
| Recruit Decanus | Junior officer responsible for managing and shaping newly inducted Legionaries. Lead a contubernium; follow orders without hesitation. |
Line Ranks
| Rank | Role |
|---|---|
| Veteran Legionnaire | A hardened, proven Legionary. Expected to lead the charge against the foe and pick up the pieces of battlefield command when necessary. Fight, survive, and serve as the example your younger brothers are measured against. |
| Prime Legionnaire | A capable, seasoned Legionary who has demonstrated their worth. Execute orders. Fight as directed. Protect your brothers. |
| Legionnaire | A Legionary of the rank and file. Follows the orders of all Decani, the Centurion, and those above. Discipline at all times. |
Specialized Roles
| Role | Role |
|---|---|
| Explorer | Scout the region. Gather intelligence. Track persons of interest. Operates with more autonomy than line Legionaries - ranging ahead to assess threats, working alone or in pairs. Open to men and women. |
| Frumentarii | Agents of intelligence and infiltration. Infiltrate, observe, and report. Sow discord among the Legion's enemies. Eliminate high-value targets when ordered. The Frumentarii do not exist - and that is the point. Open to men and women. |
| Houndmaster | Responsible for the Legion's war dogs and their deployment in battle and scouting. Animals are Legion assets; care for them accordingly. Open to men and women. |
| Vexillarius | Carry the Legion's standard. Rally brothers, maintain cohesion under fire, and protect the standard at all costs. Where you stand, the Legion stands. |
Camp Roles
| Role | Role |
|---|---|
| Forgemaster | The undisputed masters of all the Legion's workbenches and forges. Any requests for weapons, armor, or ammunition should go through the Forgemaster first. They are expected to equip the Legion to the best of their ability and inform their Column of material shortages. |
| Priestess of Mars | The upholders of the Cult of Mars, Priestesses are expected to minister to the men and women of the Legion and kindle their faith in the god of war. Generally expected to manage affairs within the camp, break new slaves, and oversee Auxilia. The Cult of Mars accepts only women into it's ranks. |
| Auxilia | The crucial back-line role that provides all the essential support the Legion requires to operate. Respected as Doctors, Healers, Forgeworkers, Gardeners, and Slavetenders, and expected to fight in defense of the Legion when necessary. Open to men and women. |
| Slave | The lowest station. Slaves serve all above them and are marked by collar and tattoo. Put to work farming, cooking, mining, crafting, and healing. Faithful labor is protected; insubordination is punished up to crucifixion. Loyal slaves may in time be elevated to true members of the Legion. |
Medical Provisions
The Legion rejects the chemical degeneracy of the Old World. The body is a weapon; to poison it with manufactured substances is to dishonor Caesar. However, this is made optional via the active playing Centurion in how they exactly follow.
| Status | Substance |
|---|---|
| Permitted | Healing Powder / Poultice, Regenerative Mesh, Mourning Poultice, Ephedra (Ephi), Charcoal, Saline Glucose, Mannitol / Neurine, RadAway (extreme radiation exposure only), Hydra (emergencies only) |
| Forbidden | Morphine, Rad-X, Stimpaks, Brute/Burn Patches, Med-X, Jet, Buffout, Psycho, Alcohol, Tobacco |
Note: RadAway is found naturally in Punga. Use only when a Legionary faces severe radiation exposure. Bagged sources found in the field are acceptable.
Prisoners and Slaves
Prisoners taken in the field are a resource to be managed with intelligence and purpose, not simply disposed of. A prisoner may serve as leverage, a labor source, an intelligence asset, or a candidate for eventual service. Officers are expected to exercise judgment. Crucifixion is available as a sentence - but it is NOT the first punishment to be used against offenders.
Slaves within the camp serve at the pleasure of Caesar's Legion and are under the protection of its members, provided they conduct themselves with obedience and humility. They are not to be abused arbitrarily - the Legion requires their labor and cooperation. Insubordination, refusal to work, or disrespect toward Legionaries will be met with appropriate consequences.
Relations
By server rules, every faction begins the round as 'neutral' to each other. The below table is purely for lore reference and shouldn't be an excuse to kill any member of any faction on sight.
| Faction | Standing | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Brotherhood of Steel | Tense | The Brotherhood's obsession with degenerate pre-war technology is matched only by their persistent isolationism. The Legion sneers at their methods and means, but usually has greater rivals to deal with in the Wendover region. |
| New California Republic | Tense | The NCR and Legion are ideologically opposed on almost every issue. This, in combination with a long and storied history of conflict between the two factions, leads to a deep enmity that often spirals into open conflict. Only seen cooperating against a bigger, common, enemy. |
| Followers of the Apocalypse | Tense | The Followers credo of pacifism and mutual aid to even the weakest of the Wasteland is seen as pure folly by the Legion. |
| Townsfolk | Neutral | The Bazaar is something the Legion has seen a thousand times before - a valuable wasteland trading town, ripe for annexation and subjugation. Until that time comes, however, the Legion must be cautious in their dealings with the locals, lest they turn to the NCR for aid. |
| Wastelanders | Neutral | Wastelanders are often purposeless vagrants who indulge in chems and other degenerate activities, but they can also provide the Legion with valuable trade, information, and services. The Legion is just as likely to take a Wastelander as a Slave as they are to engage fairly with them. |
| Vault Dwellers | Tense | Vault Dwellers are coddled by their pre-war homes and often cling to advanced technology to protect them whenever they venture out into the Wastes. The Legion is only too happy to prove to them that the Wasteland is a cruel, hostile place. |
| Wasteland Tribes | Tense | The Legion has conquered 87 tribes. The Yuma are all too likely to become the 88th. |
| Outlaws | Tense | Raiders, thieves and slavers. The first two are punished harshly under Legion law, while the third is often greeted as a valued friend offering useful wares. |
