The New California Republic Rangers (NCRR) are the volunteer special force of the New California Republic. Rooted in the values of the Republic and the Desert Rangers, the primary goal of Rangers is to deal with threats the army cannot handle, peacekeeping and law enforcement around the borders of NCR territory, and scouting. Founded by President Tandi, with Seth being honored as the "first" ranger of the NCR, the title of "Chief Ranger" has been passed around, with multiple people now holding the title. While being regarded as the elite forces of the NCR, the rangers are still guilty of internal conflict and corruption.

History

2160: Origins

Before the New California Republic was even formed, the then small settlement of Shady Sands was protected by Captain Seth and his guard, protecting the people of Shady Sands from threats from the various threats of the wasteland. Seth eventually went missing and was presumed dead after going on an investigation towards Vault 13. After his death, he was honored as the founder and given the title "First Ranger" by President Tandi.

2160-2241: Expansion

As the numbers of the Rangers grew, the Rangers were made an independent law enforcement agency focused on peacekeeping inside and outside the Republic's borders. A core mission of theirs was the abolishment of slavery, which they fought the practice for decades eventually leading to legislation happening in 2241 abolishing slavery in Shady Sands and the lands south of it.

The Rangers operated in secret, due to their low numbers, making a series of safehouses and even hiding their headquarters in an auto shop in Shady Sands. They raided slave outposts in and outside the Republic's borders, fighting and winning against often impossible odds for the small Ranger force. Their determination proved invaluable to the young Republic, and their cause eventually turned into protecting the wasteland from all forms of tyranny.

2271: Unification

The Rangers underwent reform in 2271 after then Chief Ranger Elise signed the Ranger Unification Treaty with the Desert Rangers, a group of vigilantes who trace their origin back to the Texas Rangers. Following the treaty, Chief Elise dedicated the Rangers to supporting the Republic in the Mojave Campaign and protecting crucial assets such as Hoover Dam and New Vegas, skirmishing with the eastern army of Caesar's Legion. The Rangers ethics were questioned during the battles with Caesar's Legion, as the Legion often resorted to cruel tactics such as giving civilians explosives to exploit the Rangers.

2277: First Battle of Hoover Dam

The Rangers single-handedly turned the tide of First Battle of Hoover of Dam with a trapped laid by Chief Hanlon, with assistance from First Recon, where they led the Legion forces into Boulder City and detonated large stashes of explosives in the buildings of Boulder City, destroying the Legion's main force and forcing them to retreat back east. The Rangers were regarded as heroes following the battle, and moved onto protecting the Mojave wasteland from their six Ranger stations Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, and Foxtrot.

2296: Utah Campaign and Wendover

Following the announcement of the Utah Campaign, a small detachment of Rangers was sent with the "Salt Dogs" Battalion to help secure the region for larger NCR involvement over the crucial resource, salt. Originally operating inside the Salt Dogs Battalion, the Rangers eventually established Ranger Station Juliet and now focus on their original goals of abolitionism and enforcing law in the wastes.
